Tips For Moving Home When Pregnant

Moving home while pregnant must be the worst timing of all, but there are times it is inevitable. You may have decided to move to a bigger home to prepare for the arrival of your baby or you may want to be closer to your family. Whatever reason you may have for moving, you must know that this process is very stressful, and being pregnant, it makes it twice harder.

Below are some safety tips that can be very helpful in minimizing the strain and stress when moving home while pregnant.

1. Make a plan

In every move, a plan is essential so that you can execute it as smoothly as possible, especially when you are pregnant. You will need to consider a lot of things, so planning ahead will save you from too much stress which may affect your baby. To start, you need to create a to-do list and write everything that you will do such as decluttering, packing, cleaning, doctor’s appointment, hire Auckland movers etc. You should schedule when to do these. This will serve as your guide on your entire moving process.

2. Pick a reasonable date to move

No matter how near you are moving, you need to make sure to pick a reasonable date that would allow you to still participate in the moving process while keeping yourself and your baby safe. Morning sickness is very common for many who are in their first trimester of pregnancy, so avoid scheduling your move during this period. You will definitely need to rest, so it is not a good time for you to have move home. It is also not good and safe to move towards the end of your third trimester. As you and the baby are growing, your movement will be limited.

3. See a doctor

Keep in mind that as your body change, there are things you used to do before that you shouldn’t do anymore. Seek your doctor and ask for advice on what you should and shouldn’t do during the move. Generally, pregnant women at 20 weeks or below shouldn’t be lifting anything above 18 lbs, and 13 lbs if more than 20 weeks pregnant.

If you are moving far from your previous home, you will also need to find a new doctor. You can ask for referrals from your current one. Schedule an appointment as soon as possible when you find a new one.

4. Put on hold purchasing baby supplies

If your due date is still far after you have moved into your new home, then it’s best to put on hold buying baby supplies before your moving day. When moving into a new home, you need to try to minimize the things you need to move. Moving companies will generally base their moving quote on the volume of items you are going to move or the number of hours it will take to complete the move, so the more items you have, the higher the cost you will incur. And if you wanted to opt for a DIY move (which is not recommended in your situation), it will be a lot easier if you don’t have as many belongings to transport.

5. Ask for help from family and friends

You will need to take plenty of rest in between tasks to minimize physical strain, so this will slow you down as you try to finish your moving tasks before your moving day comes. You can ask for help from family or friends with tasks such as decluttering, cleaning and packing. If it is within your budget, you can hire professional packers to help you out.

When it comes to lifting things, it is not ideal for you to be doing this back-breaking task. It will put too much strain on you that can risk your and your baby’s safety. Moving companies and furniture movers sure knows how to move your belongings safely and have the necessary equipment to make the move efficient and safe, so let these professional movers handle this task.
