We accepted a quote from Van & Man to shift our house furniture and contents from Hawera to New Plymouth. Other than an email stating they would be in touch closer to date about move, there was no communication unless in reply to our contact with them. In the day before move, they replied to our request for time and said they would be at the property between 9 & 10 am. Next morning we get a message at 9 o'clock to say that would be arriving at 10:45. This was a surprise but what can you do.
The truck and moved finally arrived at 10:45 and turns out they had come from Auckland 5 hours away and we're already looking tired. Van & Man had subcontracted the job without advising us. We had used the references for Van & Man to choose our contractor but this was not relevant anymore.
Onto the move, or family then set to helping movers transfer furniture etc to truck which took an hour. Then we headed off to New Plymouth to move into new house where we once again helped unload. When requesting quote, I advised there would be a person there to help with move but in the interest of time, 4 of us worked very hard doing a lot of the work. If we hadn't done so, we would have still been waiting for job completion till probably about 6 o'clock which was 2 hours after actual completion time. At the completion of the job, there was no acknowledgement of the help provided which was disappointing.
We engaged movers to make the shift easier than what we have done in the past when we hired a truck and did the whole job ourselves. The actual result felt more stressful than when we did it ourselves fit what was in the end, all significantly higher cost. When we spoke to Van & Man guy as I've wasn't happy with the contract price under the circumstances, he was unsympathetic and we felt he didn't care. Overall not a great experience😕
