This was one of the most disappointing experiences I've had with a transport company.
I accepted a quote of NZ$620, but ended up being charged NZ$1,150—almost double the original price.
What is even more frustrating is that the company tried to justify this by claiming the pickup date had changed. That is simply false. There was never any confirmed pickup date or time before the one that was actually communicated. From the very beginning, I clearly listed every item to be transported, including the rails, and provided photos showing exactly what needed to be moved.
The company also implied that I willingly accepted a different service. That wasn't the case. I had an international flight already booked, very limited time to find another transporter, and was left with no realistic choice but to accept the increased price.
Instead of taking responsibility, they relied on their own internal scheduling to justify a substantial price increase, despite having all the necessary information from day one. That is not transparent, fair, or professional.
If a quote can almost double after you've committed and the company then misrepresents what actually happened, customers should think twice before using this service.
I cannot recommend this company.
Response from NZ Home Movers LTD (JTL)
The original request described:
Pickup Monday of 1 bifold door made up of 6 glass panels, each approximately 1.1 m wide and 2.52 m high
1 bifold door made up of 5 glass panels, each approximately 84 cm wide and 2.51 m high
That is correct- and that is how it was quoted when listed on wise move asking for monday pickup - please see your listing again and YOU yourself had noted and i quote ;Collection date
On Monday 13/07/2026. Then you said on Monday it wont be ready till tuesday now. You do know we have o pay staff for having them on a site and you changing date doesnt matter
Move day tuesday - However when the van went to Pickup on Tuesday 2 of them ( van length being 3.5 metres long)
This was not told to us prior and we only found out from the sellers that this was going too on the day when we went to pickup
We called YOU the customer and advised him.
YOU said we had to take them so we told him that this wont fit in the van as per our quote and we now had to arrange a 6 metre truck to come and take the panels and glass door. We offered him a price of $1200 and he negotiated it to $1150 and he agreed on it before we proceeded.
YOU also had told him that we could just cancel the job - but he said he wanted to get it done and had no issues paying extra
We then had to send our truck from Papakura (75 kms away) to come and pickup adding extra hrs and extra mileage. Trucks are expensive then van on fuel and where a van takes 1 tank of fuel to WRE and truck takes double and this was without a backload and return to AKL too
We would not have proceeded if the client never agreed with us to carry forward
And we provided the best service carting extremely high valuable glass door and no damaged
