The guys that came to help me move were very friendly and professional. Ronald, the "christchurch coordinator", was the opposite. First off, I was told by Jerald that my quote of $1500 was for 20 cubic meters to be delivered from Nelson to Christchurch same day. They showed up 4 hours late. Then, after it was all loaded up, I get a call from Ronald saying the volume was higher than wise move calculated and my quote was only for 15 cube, so he wanted an extra $700. He also said it was never supposed to be the same day. And he threatened to just leave stuff behind if I didn't pay the extra charge. I agree that the wise move calculator could have underestimated the volume, but this was a ridiculous increase from my original quote, not to mention the late arrival and very late delivery. I managed to talk Jerald down to $300 increase instead of $700, making my final cost $1800. And the real kicker is, after my stuff was finally delivered, Ronald insisted I pay via card instead of bank transfer and then tried to add 15% to the final cost claiming it was "GST"! I challenged him on this and he let it go. It was an obvious shake down.
When I got the receipt, I noticed it was actually from a company called "Truckabout movers" who had originally quoted me .... $1750. So does furniture movers just give people a lowball quote to get their business, then outsource the job to other movers and then jack up the price once its too late? Seems like the case to me.

Hi Remy
To think that a 15 cubic truck will be full when we had to send another truck for your load being a 25 cubic and we will do it for the same price is totally not true. A bigger truck needs more fuel, more Road user charges compared to a small class 1 truck. Your furniture is was 23 cubcis . Wise move calculator details were not entered properly and you acknowledged that as well.
I had rung you yesterday for this and off course to send a different truck from Blenheim to Nelson to cater only for you will be Late as you Insisted on everything to be taken away. I could have only taken 15 cubic as discussed but CS is our main thing and I work by that.
We had agreed on 1800 plus gst yesterday to a bigger truck and more load.
You had wanted a same day I acknowledge but when I had to redirect another truck it took time and resources and that's what caused truck to be late. You had no issue with it being delivered a day later as you had wanted a better deal.
This was clearly a 3k job, as you had somehow " forgot " to also mention about no truck access to your house and we had to bring another ute to take things from your house to the truck. That also required extra time and most importantly extra money. Maybe you though it was free to bring them from a hirer?
Howver I leave it to you,as my more then 3,000 ,5 star reviews speak something else on this platform
