It is important to remember that one of the keys to a safe and successful home move is by using the right packing materials for your items. No one wants to end up with broken things upon arriving at one’s new home. You may have to shell out extra for buying some of these packing materials, but it’s better than spending more to repair or replace broken items. If you are not paying your Auckland movers to pack your stuff, then packing your items safely and securely is in your hands.

So, if you want to know what are the most protective materials you need to secure before you start to pack for your home move, make sure to read below.

1. Packing paper

One of the most affordable ways to protect your items is by using packing paper. A roll of packing paper can go a long way. It is best to wrap your kitchen items such as your glassware, silverware, pots and pans, etc with packing paper. You can also use this to wrap small items such as paintings, picture frames, mirrors, vases, etc. Assess how much packing paper you need for an item then wrap the item until fully protected before securing it with tape. You may also stuff the inside of items like glasses, cups and mugs with crumpled packing paper to help prevent them from breaking.

Aside from wrapping your items with packing paper, you can also use this material to fill in the gaps in your moving boxes. This will help prevent your items from shifting inside the box while being moved.

2. Bubble wrap

This packing material is not cheap, but it does a great job of cushioning and protecting fragile items so don’t forget to secure some before you start packing.  As this is not cheap and not eco-friendly, it is advisable to use this smartly. Use a single layer of this material on top of packing paper.

Wrap your fragile items with packing paper first and then add a layer of bubble wrap for extra protection. Don’t forget to secure the ends with tape. Place the items inside the moving box and fill up the empty spaces with packing paper.

3. Packing peanuts

Before placing your items inside the box, make sure to cover the bottom of the box with a layer of packing peanuts first. You can add another layer of packing peanuts after placing your items in the box then give the box a little shake to fill in the gaps and then add more packing peanuts on top before sealing the box. If you are concerned with the environment (which you should be), you can use biodegradable packing peanuts instead of those that aren’t. Keep in mind though that these can be more expensive.

4. Moving blankets

To protect large items such as furniture and appliances, moving blankets are ideal. You can wrap this around pieces of furniture, appliances and other large items to protect them from scratches, dents and even breakage. This can also be used to help keep your items protected inside the moving truck while in transit. Not only that, but you can also use moving blankets to wrap your bannisters when moving bulky items up and down your stairs,

5. Packing foam

You can use packing foam for all sorts of items, but as they are expensive, it’s advisable to only use them on your most fragile items. It can come in different types, such as foam rolls and sheets, foam pouches and corner guard foams.

6. Specialty packing kits

This one is a particularly expensive protective packing material but can give the most protection to your items. If you want to give your fragile items like your kitchen items the best protection, then buying several dish packing kits and glass divider kits is your best option. It comes with a box and a box divider which you can put together. The dividers will ensure that the items you put inside the box don’t move and touch each other to avoid breakage while being carried or while inside a running moving truck.

Now that you know the best protective materials to use, you’re all set to start packing your items. Bear in mind that even with the best packing materials, you still need to take extra care when moving them. If you’re not confident moving your belongings on your own, book the best Auckland movers with Wise Move.
