FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. DO YOU PROVIDE INSURANCE?
NO!
Customers must cover or provide their own insurance. We recommend customers to package their items in boxes for safety reasons. We will do our best ensuring we deliver the items in good condition, the way we found them.

2. DO YOU PROVIDE PACKAGING?
We can provide packaging if requested at an extra cost. Customers must provide packaging boxes and cello tapes. We provide blankets to cover big furniture and any fragile items.

LOCAL PICKUP/DELIVERY OF GOODS
Once a job has been booked, we get in touch with customer and arrange pickup time and we normally deliver straight after loading for locals. We advise customers to advise beforehand of any stairs or parking issues at the property.

INTERCITY PICKUP/DELIVERY OF GOODS
Once the job has been confirmed and booked, by then we would have already discussed pickup dates. Delivery time may vary for long distance locations, though updates of whereabouts during the trip will be updated to the customer. Sometimes if arrive late at a location, we can give the option of delivering early in the morning of the next day if the customer is comfortable.

DAMAGES
Upon evey move damages are bound to happen especially if movers are not communicated to prior to unloading items to the house. We advise customers to wrap any furniture with sharp corners to avoid damaging walls & as a team we will also ensure we are careful. If customer wants help with oversized items in the house that can not fit normally, then damages are expected, we advise customers before proceeding, any damages that occurs during the time are customer's responsibility.

PAYMENTS
Payments are required to be paid in full a day before our team arrives at the location. Cash to be handed over before starting the job at site. For jobs above $800, we require a half deposit as soon as the quote has been confirmed and accepted and the rest of the payment will be made a day before the team arrives on site.

CANCELLATION
If a customer wishes to cancel a local job, they can do so 3 days prior to the moving date, this allows us to rearrange other jobs. If a customer wishes to cancel an Intercity Job, we require 7 days’ notice.

All goods are carried at the owner's risk unless arrangements are made for transit insurance. Carriers Liability insurance has very basic and limited coverage and will not provide full coverage. We encourage and strongly recommend that all our customers purchase their own transit insurance.

The safety of our clients' furniture and other items is always our topmost priority. Ensuring that our customers have a satisfactory experience with us is what we’re best at.

Note : Once the booking is confirmed we will require 15% payment in prior and rest on pick up.

Car Transport

Contract and Commercial Law Act 2017 – Limited Carriers Risk
This means that load carrier is not responsible for damage, theft or vehicle contents. This extends to while in transit, parked or stored. Unless in the unlikely event we are at fault, our insurance covers up to $2000 incl GST for any liable damage only.
All non-runners and pre-damaged vehicles are relocated at the owner’s risk.
We recommend having comprehensive insurance cover in place (Normal full car insurance) and ensuring your policy extends to “in transit between places in New Zealand”. This covers your vehicle when using a professional transport provider, by definition a company with a Transport Service Licence

Terms and Conditions of Agreement for Carriage

1. In this agreement, the following terms are defined as;

CONTRACTING PARTY in this agreement means the person who has requested the Carrier or Forwarder is to carry goods and has the legal authority to do so.

​



​

CARRIER means Man with a Van Christchurch as the carrier whether by contract by a forwarder or as a sole agent to the owner.

​

OWNER means the party that has the legal ownership of the goods being carried under this agreement, who may or may not be a direct party to this agreement.



2. LIABILITY OF FORWARDER (such term to include, unless the context otherwise requires in these conditions, the holding company and its subsidiaries its servants’ agents’ sub-contractors and actual carriers)



( A)please note our prices do not include insurance cover as we strictly cart at "owners risk". Please discuss with your home and contents insurer.

(B)We do have restricted limited carriers insurance of $2000 per item up to $150,000 in the event of fire,vehicle overturns,colliding with external object or if ferry is grounded or sinks while in transit only.


Failure to have home and contents insurance is strongly discouraged.

Man with a Van Christchurch's maximum liability in all circumstances is $500 or client's insurance excess, whichever is lesser.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS WHEN BOOKING VIA Wise Move - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE BOOKING or Quote Accepting - Updated June 2021

1. All deposits are non-refundable unless the job is canceled by us. This is to compensate for the time and dates reserved specifically for your job. If Truckabout Furniture Movers cancels the job due to unforeseen circumstances, your deposits will be fully refunded.

2. Please ensure your Wise Move inventory is as accurate as possible. We allocate trucks based on this estimate and failure to list all goods may result in additional charges or items being left behind. Last-minute capacity is often sold at a premium.

3. ALL GOODS ARE CARRIED AT THE OWNERS' RISK as per the Carriers Act of New Zealand. WE DO NOT ACCEPT CLAIMS.

4. Goods carried into the property are taken at the owners' risk. We do not accept any liability for damages to the property at either end. We also act under instructions from our Client who has booked us and no one else

5. If you have asked for only 1 helper , please note that our driver work will be under your instructions and any damages occurring whilst loading, unloading or in transit, will be zero claims basis as well.


INSURANCE:

Personal effects, electronics, and household goods are deemed to be transported at the OWNERS' RISK and we do not accept claims pursuant to the Carriage of Goods Act 2015.

Should we be deemed responsible for intentionally damaging or losing items, our maximum liability will be your $200 home and contents insurance excess. You will be asked to file a claim.


We can also arrange Carrier's Liability Insurance.
* Needs to be pre-arranged with us and will incur extra costs, arranged through a third party.
* Maximum Claim for Carrier's Liability: $300 per item (beyond repair) if insurance is added.

Moving Day:
* All removals must be packed and ready to go.
* We do not assemble or disassemble furniture or move whiteware off cabinets.
* Our staff can assist in putting furniture in rooms, but this is done at the owners' risk. No liability is taken. No assembly or disassembly is included.

Television Sets:
Please note:
TVs that are not in a box are not covered by our Goods in Transit insurance if damaged. It is the customer's responsibility to box the TV (WE TAKE ALL CARE BUT).

MIRRORS:
ALL MIRRORS SHOULD BE PROFESSIONALLY PACKED. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGES. WE WILL DO OUR BEST BUT NO CLAIMS WILL BE CONSIDERED.


Packed Boxes:
Please note that the maximum weight for an item is 20kg, according to OHS regulations. Customers often pack boxes that weigh 40 or 50kg, which is not acceptable. In such cases, we will not accept any claims for damages. It is the customer's responsibility to pack boxes weighing no more than 20kg and with a maximum size of 50cm x 50cm.

Packaging:
All goods are to be packaged and ready to go on Pickup Day. If goods are not packaged, we may cover them with moving blankets for the journey, but no claims will be accepted if furniture /item is damaged or arrives dirty.

Car / Bike / Motorbike Parts:

We do not accept claims for second-hand parts or fittings.

Chest of Drawers:
All chests and drawers must be empty and not filled with clothes or belongings. This makes it harder to lift and increases the risk of breakage during long trips. No claims will be accepted if boxes are filled.


Terms and Conditions for Cancellations:

In the event of cancellations or change of mind, the following applies:

Pickup cancellations 96 hours or earlier:
40% of the full booking cost.

Pickup cancellations 24 to 96 hours prior to pickup:
50% of the total cost.

Pickup cancellations 24 hours or less:
100% of the full cost.

The customer will be billed accordingly and must pay within 2 days. Failure to do so will result in the matter being referred to a debt collection agency such as Baycorp.

Ferries for SOUTH ISLAND BOOKINGS:

If a ferry has been booked and the customer cancels, they will be liable for the full ferry costs. The above cancellation policy also applies.

When booking:
Please note that quotes are based on the inventory list provided on the Wise Move platform. We do not charge by the hour but according to the list provided by the customer. Any additional items will incur extra charges or may be left behind.

PAYMENTS:
Payments must be made on or before the delivery day. No other terms are allowed.
CREDIT CARD payments have a surcharge ad imposed by banks 2.5 to 3.5 %


Unpaid Bills:
Unpaid bills will be referred to collection agencies for collection. All costs will be borne by the customer.
